The Spirit of the Pony Express
A Special Edition of this painting was presented by the
Postmaster General to 141 Ministers of Post from throughout
the world at the Universal Postal Congress in 1989. The painting
depicts two forms of mail transportation in the mid-1800's -
the Pony Express and the first mail car on what became known
as the Railway Mail Service.
