The Last Great American Train Robbery
In 1923 the DeAutremont brothers killed four unarmed men and blew up
the mail car on the Southern Pacific Number 13 train in the Siskiyou
Mountains of Oregon. Postal Inspectors mounted the greatest manhunt in
history, covering five continents and three and a half years. All three
brothers were tracked down and arrested, convicted and sentenced to life
imprisonment. They never found a dime on Train Number 13, the Gold Special.
